SnapSwap™: The Benchmark for Toolchanging

Redefine multicolor and multi-material printing with SnapSwap™. Four independent, preheated toolheads let U1 switch colors and materials in just 5 seconds (a typical Snapmaker Lab result, for reference only), without all the cutting, purging and waste of conventional systems. A precision kinematic coupling and mechanical locking system deliver accurate, dependable tool changes print after print, so you can print faster and more efficiently, time after time.

Direct toolhead swaps, built for speed. Each color or material stays loaded in its own dedicated toolhead. Instead of repeatedly unloading, reloading and purging filament through a shared nozzle, the printer swaps one complete toolhead for another in just 5 seconds. Paired with a compact CoreXY system that drives the active toolhead at speeds of up to 500 mm/s, this direct-swap mechanism helps deliver a more efficient multicolor and multi-material printing experience.

Most printers rely on filament changers to switch between colors or materials, spending more time purging than actually printing. With four toolheads preloaded and preheated with their own filaments, U1 switches by simply swapping toolheads, cutting your wait time from approximately two minutes to only five seconds.

Precise Locking, Swap After Swap

U1 uses steel-ball kinematic couplings to guide each toolhead into the same precise position, then secures it with a mechanical lock: no screws, no magnets, no extra motors. Tested for over 1,000,000 continuous swaps with zero mechanical failures, the mechanism is built to remain accurate and dependable through long-term use.

Multicolor Printing with Less Waste

Purge waste from conventional multicolor systems often exceeds the material used in the model itself. By switching complete toolheads to minimize purging during color changes, U1 uses more filament for the actual print and less for waste, cutting waste by up to 85%. That lowers the cost of every multicolor project and makes frequent color changes and batch production more practical.

No more purging for color changes. Filament-changing printers purge by wasting perfectly good filament, pushing one color through the nozzle until the last trace of the old one is gone. U1 doesn't play that game: it only purges the tiny amount of filament that has actually degraded by the time a new print job begins, or during flow-rate calibration.

Here, purging during color changes means squeezing the remaining material out of the extrusion path when changing colors or materials. U1 still produces a small amount of scrap that falls outside this definition when it clears leftover filament from the nozzle before each print job, wipes the nozzle tip during a color change (building a prime/wiping tower) and performs flow-rate calibration.

How the Comparisons Were Measured

Filament usage may vary with model size, color layout and print settings. In Snapmaker Lab tests under similar conditions, U1 used up to 85% less filament than printers using shared-nozzle filament switching for the same multicolor prints. "Other" refers to a 3D printer using shared-nozzle filament switching. "Total waste" includes supports, the prime tower, minor waste from pre-print nozzle clearing and flow-rate calibration (U1), and purge waste (Other).

Pair rigid and flexible filaments, blend TPUs across varying colors and shore hardnesses, or use PETG, PVA and breakaway supports without cross-contamination or excessive waste. • PETG support: With 4 toolheads, U1 prints stable PETG components to support your creation safely, avoiding mid-print warping. These supports detach easily without damage, so you can skip tedious prying and keep your finished prints intact.
• PVA support: PVA is costly but necessary for some creations. U1's 4-toolhead system minimizes purges to little or zero, so you can pair PVA with other materials freely, reduce waste greatly and save money dramatically!

Blend Rigid and Flexible Materials

With 4 individual extruders, you can combine flexible TPU with rigid PETG and print more creative artwork, such as a 3D-printed handbag. Pair PETG with TPU, or PLA with TPU.

Automatic loading, detection, adjustment and alerts work in the background, so you can spend less time managing the machine and more time creating.

Four toolheads, aligned as one. U1 automatically calibrates the XYZ offsets between all four toolheads, keeping their relative positioning within 0.04 mm (measured using clean nozzles; calibrating with an unclean nozzle could lead to less accurate results). Colors, materials and support interfaces stay precisely aligned, without repetitive manual adjustment.

Smooth Prints and Sharp Details

• Smooth prints, even at speed: Input Shaping uses data from a precision accelerometer to compensate for resonance during rapid movement and directional changes. It reduces ringing and ghosting, helping U1 maintain smooth walls, clean edges and sharp details even at high printing speeds.
• Fine-tuned extrusion for sharp details: Pressure Advance adjusts extrusion timing as printing speed and direction change. By compensating for pressure buildup and response delay inside the nozzle, it reduces blobs, thinning and uneven corners, producing smoother lines and cleaner, more consistent details.

Reliable First Layer, Automatically

Automatic mesh bed leveling maps the build surface and compensates for height variations across the bed. It maintains a consistent nozzle distance, delivering a flat, even and dependable first layer with less manual setup.

Effortless Filament Management

Keep up to four spools loaded and ready. Auto-loading reduces manual feeding, Backup Mode switches to a matching spool when one runs out, and RFID recognition identifies key information for supported Snapmaker filaments. A dedicated waste collector keeps purge waste contained for easier routine cleanup. A Controlled Environment with the Optional Top Cover

Filament-adaptive thermal management retains heat for engineering filaments such as ABS and ASA while exhausting excess heat for materials that require a cooler chamber. Three-stage air filtration in internal circulation mode reduces odors, VOCs and fine particles for added protection, expanding what U1 can print with greater control and confidence.
